The material, depth of damage, and condition around hinges and locking points determine the options. Local damage and a frame that cannot hold its fixings are different problems. The assessment should explain why repair or replacement is recommended.
02How can I tell whether the problem is the frame or the hardware?
Uneven gaps, repeated rubbing, loose fixings, or a latch that keeps missing may involve the surrounding frame. Similar symptoms can come from worn hinges or hardware, so diagnosis should consider the whole opening.
03Can a new door fit into my existing frame?
Sometimes, if the frame is sound, correctly aligned, and compatible with the replacement. A new door in a damaged or distorted frame may continue to bind or fail to latch. Confirm both parts of the opening before ordering.
04Should soft or deteriorated framing be covered over?
The extent and cause of deterioration should be assessed first. Covering a weakened area may leave the fixing or moisture problem unresolved. Ask whether surrounding work is needed as part of the repair plan.
05Do I need a new door after a break-in?
